A resort or lodge may join the Best Boutique Collection if it meets the following criteria:
- Identifies itself as a Boutique Resort or Lodge
- Has between 1 and 40 rooms
- Features a stylish or welcoming exterior design
- Is not part of any hotel chain, no matter how small
- Charges a minimum rate of 120 US$ per room per night
